Dahlia Tuber Sale Policies

WHEN DOES THE SALE BEGIN?

Our tuber sale usually happens in February or March with a restock in May.

Shipping will begin mid-APRIL as temperatures start to rise. Shipping for the May restock happens immediately.

SHIPPING ADDRESS

Please ensure your shipping information is correct! In the past, we have had several packages returned because of invalid or incorrect information on delivery addresses: Zip code, State, and House Number. We want to get your dahlias to you quickly and securely. New shipping fees will apply if we have to reship your order due to an incorrect or incomplete address.

I PLACED MULTIPLE ORDERS. CAN YOU COMBINE THEM?

We will do our best to combine orders but due to the sheer volume of orders we receive we cannot make any guarantees.

ON-FARM PICKUP

There will be TWO dates available for farm pickup: Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27, 2025 at Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem. If you would like farm pickup please choose this option at checkout. All other orders will be shipped USPS. Please note any changes to your pickup/shipping selection will incur a $15 administrative change fee so please read and select options carefully at checkout.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

We do not promise pretty tubers, nor tubers of a certain size. Tubers can be pinky or fist sized, smooth or wrinkly. Our prices do not reflect the physical beauty of a tuber. Keep in mind, dahlia tubers are perishable products that have matured several inches beneath earth’s soil amongst crawling critters, then yanked up, sawed apart, stored to the best of our ability, handled, and flown hundreds of miles. Our priority is to provide you the material to grow a healthy plant that will reward you with a bounty of beautiful blooms. We sell single divided tubers from dahlias grown on our farm, packed to the best of our ability. We do not resell dahlia clumps.

We do not pre-sprout or purposely wake tubers up prior to shipping. We take advantage of our mild, temperate climate and store our tubers without temperature controls. This means they wake up on their own time, which varies by variety. We only ship tubers that have visually been inspected and determined to have an eye. Some eyes are visible by daylight, and some have been verified by looking through a magnifying lamp. Some tubers have one eye and some have multiple. Eyes may recede or grow during the time they are packed and shipped. Some eyes might sprout and despite our care in handling, can still break off during the checking and packing, or shipping process. This is not a defect. Please remember, this is the tuberous root of a dahlia that is somewhere between a dormant stage, and waking up and growing, and while tubers of some varieties can be delicate and harder to deal with, they are actually pretty resilient.

A dormant tuber is not the same as a blind tuber. If you are concerned about any dormant tubers in your order, we’ll be happy to share our tips and tricks to safely waking them up. Just shoot us a email!

DO YOU SELL TUBERS OR CLUMPS?

We sell individual tubers, and tubers are priced per unit. We do not sell clumps.

I GOT SOME SMALL TUBERS. WILL THEY GROW?

As I have come to learn in my 10+ years of growing dahlias, not all varieties produce big tubers, it's their nature and DNA. When it comes to dahlias tubers, keep in mind that size does not matter, even the tiniest tubers are mighty and will produce many gorgeous blooms.

Additionally, the size of a tuber does not define your plant's health. Every tuber we sell will grow into a healthy plant and bloom beautifully. We try to provide our customers with the best, healthiest tubers we can, and sizes can vary. We do not offer refunds based on the size of a tuber.

REFUNDS

Please inspect your tubers upon arrival and contact us within 3 days should you have any issues when you receive your tubers (hello@wildirisflowerfarm.com is the best way to contact us. Please do not send direct messages on social media about your order).

Open your packages IMMEDIATELY. All refund requests, with no exception, should be accompanied by multiple pictures. For shipping issues we will only refund with pictures within 3 days of receiving your package. All tubers are rigorously inspected, viable and with the right conditions they will grow within the season and produce blooms.

Wild Iris Flower Farm does not issue dahlia tuber refunds for improper growing conditions and/or storage conditions after shipment. We cannot be held responsible for any damage, rot or disease that happens in storage or in the field/garden post shipment. All dahlia tuber sales are final.

DO YOU OFFER BULK OR WHOLESALE PRICING?

We do offer bulk pricing of some of our dahlia varieties and also our Grab Bags are a ways to get a discounted price on our tubers!

A NOTE FROM CHRISTINE

This is a wild time to love and purchase dahlia tubers! I know firsthand the disappointment of losing a tuber, or two, three, four, or five that I really want, and I know that I don’t have enough of some that I offer for everyone who wants one. But I try. The dahlias I select and grow to sell are years in the making. I purposely hold back on many cultivars to increase my stock until I have what I feel, for our farm size, is a nice amount to go around.

This website has been created with the very best intentions to host a sale that is both successful for my business and for your gardens. I hope you can snag at least one treasure and that the process runs smoothly. When it comes to your shopping experience as well as your experience with our tubers, please don’t assume the worst. I ask for your patience and trust in the several years that we have been shipping dahlias across the US, and I promise that we work tirelessly and doing our best to provide a quality product.

WHEN WILL MY TUBERS SHIP?

We will begin shipping tubers as soon as night time temperatures in the majority of the country stay above freezing (usually late April). It is unsafe to ship tubers while temperatures are inconsistent; a frozen tuber = a dead tuber and no one wants that! You will get an email notification when your tubers ship.

SECURING TUBERS IN CART

Putting a tuber in your cart does not reserve it. Not until you successfully checkout is your order secured. I highlight this, put it in bold, AND underline it, but it’s still the #1 question we get every year: Why did some tubers disappear from my cart?

The e-commerce platform updates inventory based on the tubers it needs to fulfill completed orders, making some unavailable. If there is a variety you want, I encourage you to be quick, add them to your cart, and checkout.

DO YOU SHIP TO ALASKA, HAWAII, CANADA OR INTERNATIONALLY?

Yes, we do ship to Alaska and Hawaii! No, we do not ship internationally at this time.

SHIPPING CONFIRMATION

When we print the shipping label, you will receive a tracking number for your order(s). To increase efficiency, we may print multiple if not all, shipping labels on the same day. However, it may take us days to get your order, pack it, and hand it to the Post Office for shipping. So if you don’t see your order moving along, it simply means we haven’t packed it yet. Please ensure your email address is correct upon checking out!

HOW MUCH IS SHIPPING?

Dahlia tubers will be shipped via USPS priority mail to the United States only; this includes Alaska and Hawaii. Tubers will ship between early and mid April once freezing temperatures are clear of the forecast. We cannot fulfill early shipping requests. You will receive a notification once the order ships with a tracking number. We are unable to guarantee an arrival time due to USPS delays. The cost of shipping is outlined below:

1-4 tubers: $12.00

5-15 tubers: $20.00

16-30 tubers: $30.00

30+ tubers: $45.00

SHIPPING ISSUES

Once your order has been shipped and you have received an email with tracking information, we cannot be held responsible for any mishandling, delays, or lost packages caused by USPS. All packages are insured, and if your package is lost, damaged, or stolen in transit, you will need to file a claim directly with USPS. We are unable to replace or refund orders affected by carrier-related issues, but we recommend reaching out to USPS promptly to initiate the claims process.

CAN I RESERVE TUBERS?

We are not able to reserve any tubers of any variety for anyone.

DO YOUR TUBERS MAKE BIG BLOOMS?

Dahlias will only bloom as big as their variety, hence their official classification by size. For example, a Sweet Nathalie bloom is usually 5” wide; nothing you do to the plant will make it 9”.

If you want big blooms, search for the dinner plate dahlias. Photos can be misleading regarding size, so please research the dahlia varieties you’re interested in. We try to add descriptions to as many varieties as possible to help you narrow down your shopping process.

REPLACEMENTS DUE TO CROP FAILURE

We try to account for loss with a reasonably conservative margin during storage. However, sometimes, the loss between the sale and ship date is more significant than expected, causing a shortage in supply at the time of shipping. This is rare, but it can happen.

In the unlikely event that this was to happen, you will be asked if you’d like a refund or a replacement for a similar variety during checkout should we have crop failure on certain dahlias before shipping. We will refund you if you choose a substitution and we do not have a similar variety to ship. We appreciate your understanding as we deal with Mother Nature.

HOW MUCH DO WILD IRIS TUBERS COST?

Based on variety, our selections range from $9 to $25 per tuber.

DO YOU GUARANTEE YOUR TUBERS?

All tubers are guaranteed to have at least one eye, even though they might not be visible at the time they are received. They have been checked multiple times, but keep in mind that eyes we saw when dividing might have receded by the time your tubers make it to you. Tubers are only guaranteed to have an eye and be healthy enough to grow. They aren’t guaranteed against poor growing practices, damage in the case you may pre-sprouting or using them to take cuttings, acts of mother nature, or anything else that goes wrong once they have left our hands.

If they do not grow and are found to be blind and the tuber is fully intact, you will receive a refund in the form of a Wild Iris Gift Card for that tuber no earlier than Aug 1 2025, and no later than Oct 31 2025. Photos will be required.

We all have different experience levels growing dahlias, and we have no way of knowing yours when you reach out, so please understand that we will likely respond with questions to try to figure out the situation.

CSA Membership Details

2025 CSA Membership: $160.00 (plus tax) per month/4 weeks of bouquets

Purchasing a CSA membership guarantees you (or your gift recipient) will receive a fresh bouquet of locally grown blooms each week. If you are unable to commit to the CSA terms, you can still enjoy our flowers at:

  • Local farmers markets
  • Flower truck events
  • Pre-made bouquets at various local stores

When does my CSA start?

You will receive an email notification 1-2 weeks before the first pickup date.

  • Tulip CSA → Begins in late April
  • May CSA → Begins in early May
  • June CSA → Begins in early June
  • August CSA → Begins in early August
  • September CSA → Begins in early September

Can I pick up my share a few minutes early or late?

Our flower subscription pickup days/times are firm. As a busy mom, business owner, and farmer, I cannot currently accommodate alternate pickup times. If the set schedule doesn't work for you, check out our flowers at local markets instead!

What if I forget to pick up my bouquet?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer alternative pickup times outside the agreed to schedule. Please set a reminder and plan accordingly!

Can I buy more than two CSA shares?

Yes! We have no limit on shares per household currently.

How can I make my flowers last longer?

Since our flowers are freshly cut (the morning of pickup or the day before!), they usually already last longer than store-bought blooms! You can follow these care tips for the best vase life practice as well:
✔ Keep flowers out of direct sunlight
✔ Keep flowers away from fruits and vegetables
✔ Change water daily to prevent bacteria
✔ Remove any dead blooms promptly
✔ After 4-5 days, trim the stems and move to a shorter vase to extend their lifespan

Important Policy Info

  • We are unable to offer alternative pickup times. If you cannot pick up your bouquet, you may send a friend or family member on your behalf.
  • Missed or forgotten bouquets cannot be credited or rescheduled.
  • By purchasing a CSA share, you commit to picking up your bouquet at the designated time and location.
  • If gifting a CSA share, please ensure the recipient has read and agreed to these terms and is available to pick up weekly.

What does CSA stand for?

CSA = Community Supported Agriculture. Traditionally, CSA members pre-pay for a "share" of the farm's seasonal harvest to support farmers and enjoy fresh, local produce (or flowers, in this case!).

Can I get a share every other week instead of weekly?

At this time, we only offer weekly CSA bouquet shares. However, you may split a share with a friend and alternate pickup weeks—you will need to manage this arrangement.

What if I am out of town on pickup day?

If you are away during a pickup day you may arrange for a friend to pick up your bouquet on your behalf. Please email us to let us know who will be picking up for you!

Can I purchase extra bouquets at pickup?

Sometimes extra bouquets may be available via our partners, Harvest Moon and The Meetinghouse, but this is not guaranteed, it depends on if we have extra blooms that week!

Can I give a CSA as a gift?

Absolutely! Our flower subscriptions make a great gift. If gifting, please provide the recipient’s name and email.
